Obituary for Domenico "Dom" Vincenzo

Domenico "Dom" Vincenzo
Vincenzo, Domenico “Dom”, of Medford, January 23, 2017. Beloved husband of 48 years to Dora Vincenzo (Tosches). Loving father of Gabriele Vincenzo and his wife Christine of Canton, Paula LeBert and her husband David of Lynn, Viviana Vincenzo and her husband William Newman of Medford and Domenico Vincenzo Jr and his girlfriend, Maria Iannessa of North Reading. Cherished nonno of Christian and Sophia LeBert and Cassandra and Alexander Vincenzo. Devoted brother of Angelo Vincenzo and the late Giacomo Vincenzo, both of Castelcivita, Italy. He is also survived and dearly missed by loving nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.

Dom excelled at storytelling. Many Sunday mornings, you would find him holding court with good friends on Hanover Street. If you let him buy you an espresso, your best thank you to him was your company. Immediately after an introduction to him, Vincenzo family newcomers were inducted with a spirited retelling of his life. Whether it was the first or fiftieth time hearing it, the story was no less remarkable.

Dom left home at 14 to work in Naples, then came to America at age 17 with money he borrowed from his father, which he later proudly paid back in full. At one time he worked 3 jobs a day, doing alterations and washing dishes from 6 am to 1 am. But he dreamed of owning his own business. He worked in a factory as an operator in Brockton, eventually moving up to the director of manufacturing. In 1969, he and a partner opened their own clothing business, which grew to three factory locations by 1976, when the partners went their separate ways. After running a new factory successfully in Brockton for a year, he began literally building his dream: a factory in Lynn, then later expanded his operations to Costa Rica. After much success, he closed the factories in 1986, choosing to focus on investments in real estate, a coffee shop and making his family’s dreams come true.

Dom loved entertaining. His greatest joy was to be surrounded by friends and family, eating a meal that he prepared. His absence will not only affect those who loved his penne, but the pasta industry overall: he bought only the best and cooked it by the ton. Buffets weren’t his style: everyone deserved a seat and never used a paper plate or plastic utensil. No one who visited Big D at “Capah Cod” left with an empty stomach or without feeling loved.

Dom took fashion cues from no one. His shirts had eight buttons, but he only used 3 of them. Suits were considered casual wear. Gold crosses less than 4 inches were unnecessary. Short shorts were for women AND men.

Dom was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. For some, he will always be the gold standard for taking care of his loved ones. Ferocious, focused, and fueled by a need to be his own man which he accomplished in countless ways until the very end. To him, it wasn’t “my way or the highway,” it was “my way or the my way.”

We will miss him always and carry his love in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Domenico’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Donations can be made online at http://giftfunds.stjude.org/domenicovincenzo
