Richie was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he lived for the majority of his life. In 1963 he enlisted in the Army and served in a tank unit protecting the Berlin wall in West Germany until 1965. While in the Army he earned both his M1 rifle sharpshooter and 0.45 caliber pistol marksman qualifications. Upon returning to Cambridge from military service, Richie worked in the auto body repair and painting field and as a warehouse clerk for Bradlees prior to his retirement.

In his retirement, Richie enjoyed socializing with his neighbors in his apartment complex. He loved boats and classic cars and could always be counted on for lively discussions on these topics. Watching classic cowboy and war movies and PBS documentaries was another favorite pastime of his. He always made a point to stress to his nieces and nephews, the importance of getting a good education. Richie was a selfless person who always made time for others, whether it was visiting his nieces and nephews and their families or helping care for his sister Patricia while she was undergoing cancer treatment.

Richie has had a positive impact on many peoples lives and his smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
