Maiden, Carol Broggini Krickl, 79, of Jupiter, Florida passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018. Daughter of the late Adrian J. and Virginia R. Broggini of Wellesley, MA, Carol was preceded in death by husbands Anthony B. Catlin of Weston, MA, Anson W. Krickl of Palm Beach, FL, and Conde G. Maiden of Jupiter, FL. She is survived by her children, Anthony B. Catlin, Jr. and Wendy C. R. Catlin, both of Natick, MA, and Leslie Catlin Carr (Michael B.) of Bellingham, MA; grandchildren, Rachel and Tucker Catlin, and Alexander, Ethan and Ella Carr; long-time companion Robert C. Keltie of Boca Raton, FL; sisters Judith B. Gunner of Wellesley, MA and Adrienne J. Lewis of Sherborn, MA; many nieces and nephews, and extended family all over the world.

Born August 6, 1938 in Flushing, NY, Carol spent her early years in Manhasset, Long Island until her family relocated to Wellesley when she was 10. She was a 1956 graduate of Beaver Country Day School and received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Connecticut College in 1960. Married in 1961, Carol devoted most of her time to raising her three children, breeding and quite successfully showing Chocolate Labrador Retrievers, and volunteering for causes dear to her heart before moving to Florida and remarrying in 1980. There she enjoyed an active social life, golf, tennis, world travel, and continued canine adventures, all while whipping up gourmet meals and hosting gatherings for her family and friends.

Carol was an extraordinary reader. From her very first summer job as a college student at The Book Stall in Wellesley Hills, she could always be found nosing through works of literature, stretching her mind and her world through the written word. Poetry, fiction, newspaper articles, non-fiction, The New Yorker…if it was written, Carol read it. She enjoyed a 2-decade long book club membership in Florida and left behind a detailed list of every book she read, rated from one to five stars. She spent countless happy hours volunteering for Reading is Fundamental (RIF), the largest non-profit children’s literary organization in the United States. Carol shared her passion for reading with everyone around her, especially her grandchildren, to whom she adored reading bedtime stories and sharing books as they got older. As described by her college roommate, through her reading, Carol always kept the windows open to the wider world.

Intelligent, beautiful, witty, chic, and gutsy, Carol had a smile that lit up a room wherever she was. She was a well-known, liked, and respected member at The Country Club, Lost Tree Village, and Jupiter Hills. She enjoyed cooking gourmet meals, needlepoint, dogs, sports, particularly golf, tennis, and hockey, and, above all, reading. Sassy and a bit of a prankster, Carol also loved a good joke and wasn’t above pointing fun at herself. She thrived on the love of her family and friends and spent countless happy hours penning long letters to her many confidantes around the globe. She also possessed a mighty sweet tooth and was a big believer in eating dessert first.

Carol will be deeply missed by her large extended family, friends, and most especially her devoted children and grandchildren. A service celebrating Carol’s life will be held on Friday, May 18 at 10:30 at The Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington St. Interment at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St., Newton. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
