Condolence: Bruce Teele; what a delightful human being! A real man with a big heart, a bear trap mind, and a gigantic appetite for hard work, laughter, friendship, collaboration, orecchiette, 1996 Barolo and sommeliers who opened and served without resting the bottle. Marjorie, I lost the light of my life not long ago, so I have a small sense of the desperate pain you are bearing at this time of immense loss. But I assure you that the suffering that you and your wonderful guy shared for the last several years will evolve, instead, into a lot more great memories of shared adventures and good times together. I was the Secretary for the first NFPA 1975, the first NFPA 1977 and the 2013 edition of NFPA 1971. Bruce was such a wonderful collaborator with gritty firefighters, nerdy lab types and even aggressive manufacturers looking for an “edge”. Everyone left feeling they were winners, and Standards were ultimately created that always advanced the safety of America’s heroes. The best there ever was! Rest easy Bruce. God Bless.

Condolence: We owe a lot to Bruce Teele. Bruce was critical to the success of the NFPA thermal imaging cameras standard that many of us worked many years to create. Without Bruce’s support, our standard would never have been possible. Today, thanks to Bruce, firefighters continue to benefit from added safety provided by equipment conforming to the many NFPA standards he was involved in. Over the years, I’ve personally come to know Bruce quite well. Many good memories. My fondest memories center on dinners with Bruce, Bobby Athanas, Bruce Varner, and others in Boston on the eve of the last day of an NFPA meeting. Always a fun time. We started to miss him the day he left NFPA. Today, we miss him even more. Take care Bruce, till we meet again. Condolence: Every fire fighter in the country carries a piece of Bruce Teele's legacy in the fine SCBA offered by all the manufacturers. Bruce was a fine leader of the respiratory protective equipment committee and through the years we all learned so much from him----especially how to get things done for the betterment of the guys and gals that make the hallways and open the bale on the nozzle. You certainly left the fire service a much better and safer profession. We will miss you, Steve

Condolence From: Bruce Varner
Condolence: To Marge and family my deepest sympathies and love for you. I truly share in your loss. He was my other brother Bruce, whom I had the privilege and pleasure of knowing for over 45 years, counting him among my very closest friends. As others have already said, his dedication to the safety and welfare of firefighters was unparalleled. If he gave you a fire service fact it was unfailingly accurate. His fairness and firmness in working with the various committees was well established, he held both the manufacturers and the fire service accountable to improve the safety of firefighters. At the end of the work day Bruce knew the best Italian restaurants no matter where you were. If you were fortunate enough to travel with him to Switzerland, you had the ultimate tour guide. His legacy in the fire service is the tremendous improvements in Protective Clothing and Equipment and the firefighters who are safer because of his dedication. Rest in peace my dear friend!

Condolence: When Bruce was Chief Coordinator of the Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Association his focus was on supporting the professional development of the largely rural firefighters in New Hampshire. His sense of humor and gregarious nature made it easy for him to share insights into fire service lore that energized many of our members. He was also a legendary raconteur. Rest In Peace, Bruce, your brothers will remember you well.

Condolence: Marge, the fire service lost an unsung hero in Bruce's passing. I fondly remember my earliest days with MSA back in 1985 and working alongside Bruce to improve firefighter safety with the comprehensive revisions to NFPA 1981 that he was advancing. He was always a stalwart and articulate advocate for protecting firefighters and advancing the performance standards manufacturers had to meet. He was tough, but always fair. He was a great friend to so many of us who worked long hours with him. And as we all can attest, Bruce always made the best espresso martinis! He will truly be missed! May God bless you at this time, Marge.

Condolence: May God have a special place reserved for my old friend Bruce. Bruce was one of the people who supported me in my decision to leave the Boston area to pursue a career with the Phoenix Fire Department back in 1981. Always a friend, mentor and supporter, Bruce dedicated his life to make the world a better and safer place for firefighters throughout the world. The memories of old Italian dinners filled with laughter and banter will be cherished forever. God Bless you and your family Bruce! Thank you for your personal and professional contributions to me, both as a friend and firefighter.
