Obituary for Edward W. Takacs

TAKACS, Edward W.
With heavy hearts and deepest sorrow we share the passing of Edward (Ed) W. Takacs of Arlington, Massachusetts on Sunday, March 24, 2019. Beloved husband of twenty years to Giuliana Berchicci, loving father of Andrew of Newton, MA, and of Cecilia, Olivia, and Edoardo, all of Arlington, MA. Devoted son of the late Edward V. Takacs and Shirley (Coleman). Ed is survived by many close friends and mentees, who benefitted from his wisdom.
Ed lived passionately and with tenacity, always approaching any endeavor – whether related to family, friends, hobbies or business – with complete vigor. His family always came first. He cherished the time they spent together, and with Giuliana raised their children to value honesty, hard work, learning and service to others. Ed was generous with his friends, and loved to entertain at his home. These gatherings brought together people from all different areas of his life and always fostered new connections and friendships. Ed was just as passionate about his many hobbies, including motorcycling, music, sailboarding, golf and fishing.
In business, Ed was a visionary who revolutionized the way founders assemble teams and build companies. Ed began his career at Intel, where he was a top sales performer. In 1986 he founded High Tech Ventures to enable technology entrepreneurs to quickly build and grow their executive and engineering teams for success. Ed’s industry knowledge and innovative approach to team-building accelerated the growth of many new companies that brought game-changing technology to market, created jobs, and generated profits. The long list of successful companies that benefited from association with Ed includes Dropbox (IPO), Carbon Black / Bit9 (IPO), SpeechWorks (acquired by Nuance) and Endeca (acquired by Oracle).
Ed grew up in Stockton, California and graduated as a valedictorian from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, where he also earned All-State Honors in both football and baseball. He attended the United States Air Force Academy and by the age of 23 he had earned a B.A. in Economics from University of The Pacific, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Santa Clara and an MBA from the University of Chicago, all while working full time in tech.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday from 4-8PM from the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St. ARLINGTON. Burial will be Private.
