Condolence: I will never forget how Bro Blue chatted with my grand daughter at the Cincinnati Festival & Conference. She still talks about "That Storyteller who sat in front of us with the big smile."

Condolence: Dear Ruth,

My thoughts and my prayers are with you. My children, now adults, send their condolences too. For a week, we have been recalling special memories of past encounters with our precious Brother Blue. My children used to refer to his stories and his being as "Blue Magic." He touched our heads and our hearts. He gave us beautiful stories and lessons to grow by. He touched our lives with a special "magic" which helped us to be the best that we could be. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He made us think. We love our dear Brother Blue and we love you too.

Condolence: Dear Ruth,
It is so incredibly difficult when someone leaves us, and yet we must let them go. Blue was such an extraordinary soul, and would have flown away long ago had you not kept him tethered as you did. We are all so very grateful to you for that. You have both given us an incredible gift, one that will live on and on for as long as we continue to tell our stories.
Bless you in the holding on, and bless you in the letting go; we wish you peace -
From the middle of the middle...to eternity.
Joanne

Condolence: When someone dies, we all lose that person's unique point of view. Blue had the gift of "living life out loud." He was a model of being his unique, passionate, rhythmic, aesthetic self. So we got to experience Blue's point of view on the world, and its loss is palpable.

But Blue was also a great listener. There is no one I would rather have had in the front row as I told a story. I felt I could see my own story playing across his face as I told it. This reflection in the mirror of Blue made me a bolder, more impassioned teller.

So we also lose his unique points of view on us, on what we were saying, on how close we were coming to "God speaking to God." Without that gifted listener, we will have to huddle even closer to each other to be nearly as much our selves.

And for you, who both held that soaring spirit to the ground and had that sparkling listener in your daily life, the loss must be exponentially greater.

Thanks for all you did to help us have him. Please rely on us whenever it makes sense for you, as you create a life without his physical presence.

Condolence: Dear Ruth,
We send you our deepest condolences. The sad news of Brother Blue's passing has travelled far and wide. Through our sadness shine the wonderful memories of what the two of you shared with us many years ago. The awe and enchantment I felt as a little girl to have Brother Blue telling stories in our living room in Arlington! And the butterflies! I like to think that he is now weaving his stories for my father, and for the others that have gone before us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you bid farewell to Brother Blue today and in your grieving and healing in the time to come.
