Many of us will miss Mary so much. I'm very lucky to have had the chance to volunteer with her at Rosies Place and HCA and frequently to share our commute into Boston on the Red line. She was such an inspiration. I'm very sorry for her friends and family that we have had to say good bye to Mary so soon.

I had the great opportunity of working with Mary for a number of years at an environmental consulting firm (Metcalf & Eddy, Inc., Wakefield, MA) in the late 1980's and 1990's. We worked in the hazardous waste site clean-up group. It was a great group of young men and women who working together to assess, test, plan, and design clean-ups of industrial and hazardous waste sites throughout New England and the Northeast. Mary played a key role in assessing human health risks of each site so that Engineers such as myself, could design appropriate remedies for cleanups. There were many-many long days and late hours for 6 or 7-person project teams, both "in the field" sampling as well as in the office working on test data, spreadsheets, and reports. I remember Mary always being kind, considerate and she had that wonderfully disarming and infectious smile and wicked sense of humor. That kept everybody loose and was a great tonic for tired teams of chemists, scientists, planners, and engineers. Many of us (like myself) moved on to other jobs after M&E. I didn't know that Mary had been working at the Housing Corporation of Arlington to promote affordable housing which is great. That sounds just like Mary; trying to make the world a bit better for others. She was always thinking of others first before worrying about herself. It is ironic that the first place I lived when I moved to the Boston area after college (circa 1986) was Arlington. It had the most affordable housing around the area. Our thoughts and prayers are with wife Lynne, mom Fran, brothers, sister /sisters in law and her many, nieces and nephews. Mary gave without reservation and braved the long road to ending homelessness in many of the communities around us. There are too many acts of kindness to strangers and families alike to list. We were fortunate to live with Mary as a roommate and then as tenants when we all moved to Arlington. Mary was a constant inspiration to our family. She was present at the birth of our daughter and became a constant force in guiding her in such a peaceful and loving way that we know that Mary’s influence has shaped who Kelsey has become. So many memories over the past 25 years... Our trips together to Martha's Vineyard, the Brooks family home in Maine, the SFC cabin, Cranes Beach, the Weston pool, even Steve's for Ice cream in the Square, and Mary and Lynne's bike trip with Kelsey to the Cape, were all so special. Mary's laughter was infectious and on many occasion we would laugh so hard we would cry or have to stop (we would actually call Time Out!) just to catch our breath.
